Introduction to Media and Information Literacy (Lecture)

             This table shows that I spent most of my time in Twitter, Tumblr, and Messenger. This is for the reason that I mainly communicate with my friends and family using these sites. We now send our messages through here than sending text messages. Meanwhile, Twitter and Tumblr's role are mostly for leisure ie. searching about artists and other interesting posts. At times, Twitter can be used for news worldwide and Tumblr for learning new ideas.

Unlocking the definitions

              1. Technology Literacy

                       Technology Literacy for me is the practice of all forms of technology, its uses, and how it can be properly utilized.

              2. Media Literacy

                            For me this talks about the capacity of knowing media, how we use it, and its goals.

              3. Information Literacy

                        Information Literacy is how we study all information, how we can access it, knowing where it came from, and what to do with it.

             4. Media and Information Technology

                 For me this is defined as the study of media and information, its goals, how they are incorporated for our use while being in the state of having critical thinking when it comes to media and information.

Evaluation

            1. In your opinion, what makes an individual literate in media and information?

                    For me, an individual may be considered literate in media and information basically when he or she possesses media and information literacy. It is interdisciplinary in nature because to be literate in media and information means to be able to analyze, assess, and communicate information in a variety of forms. Being literate in media and information also includes developing proficiency with the huge amount of information affecting our cognition, emotions, and behavior. Most importantly, I think that what makes an individual literate in media and information is when critical thinking is attained. It is not only confined to the "proper" use of media and information but also about the knowledge, learning, 

          2. What activities / habits do you practice which illustrate media and information literacy? Give at least three examples. 

                    Activities and habits that I practice which illustrate media and information literacy are reading the newspaper, browsing websites of Rappler and CNN Philippines, watching videos and documentaries, and at times, even surfing the net for music from several artists. These activities vary in the form of media used yet these somehow help me develop critical thinking skills especially now in the recent events happening in our society. Furthermore, these also help me improve my capability in handling information that may affect me as an individual and as a citizen.
