Review
In your own understanding, what is:
A. Information
- For me information is any data that is already taken in and processed by the brain.
B. Information literacy
- Since we have already discussed this, information literacy is the ability of a person to know information and when it is necessary, and how to broadcast and share it using different formats and platforms.
C. Stages / Elements of Information Literacy
The different stages or elements of information literacy are information needs, sources of information, access, evaluation, organizing, and communicating information.
"Knowledge is Power"
This statement means that knowledge is an important tool to have power - power to do something, power to control events. No great work is done without acquiring first the necessary knowledge. Knowledge is also used to survive life for without it one will find it difficult to tread the highs and lows in the world and no one can prosper and progress.
How does information become knowledge?
I think information becomes knowledge the moment our brain takes it in, understand and then finally create and decide over what to do with it. When we start to incorporate it and make meaning of facts because information is basically facts, then it becomes knowledge.
State the
importance of giving credit to the source of one's work.
Giving credit to the source of one's work is very essential. First, it saves one from being jailed. Since it is a violation of the law, someone who does not cite any material taken from another might face serious charges. Also, this provides proof of what you have done and enhance your credibility. It also helps in acknowledging the maker or author of the work. More importantly, it is a reflection of ourselves for giving credit is something that distinguishes good students.
Evaluation
Write an essay (of at most 100 hundred words) about an information literate individual.
Being a information literate individual is essential for today’s world. Information literacy promotes thinking skills such as asking questions, gathering information, making decisions, fostering successful learners, and responsible citizens. Young intellectuals, most importantly, need not only the ability to read information but also the ability to identify when to trust the information and when it can affect and influence them in their lives. An information literate individual need to identify which information is real and relevant not just for a certain purpose but for learning and for life.
