Evaluation

          1. Given the available media that we now have in the world, what are its roles and functions in a democratic society?
With the available media that we have now, its roles and functions in a democratic society are very crucial. The media makes us aware of different social events happening around the world. The media is also considered the fourth estate and so it performs the following functions:
                 A. As a Channel
The media provides opportunities for people to communicate, share ideas, speculate, tell stories and give information .
                 B. Watchdog
The exposure of corrupt practices of the government and the private sector is one of duties of media. It creates a space wherein governance is challenged or scrutinized by the governed while also guaranteeing free and fair elections. It is like a mirror, trying to reflect and show us the real ills of society and harsh realities of life. The media also strives to expose the problems in the democratic scheme, which in due course helps the government to make the system more liable, reactive and citizen-friendly.
                C. Resource center
Also, the media acts as a gateway of information for the society’s consumption. It becomes a keeper of memories of the community, preserver of heritage and source of academic knowledge. Television, radio, and the social media have helped throughout the years in educating people in rural areas, giving them more room for learning.
               D. Advocate
Through its diverse sources or formats, the media also bridges the gap of digital divide.

         2. In what way does media affect your life (personal, professional, academic, social, others)?                        Being an aspiring journalist, the media has pretty much affected me in all aspects of my life. It has made me more conscious and proactive in certain causes that hinder the growth in our society. It is notable to say that the media has made me a more responsible citizen, with the aim of helping in the betterment of the community. It helped know more from our country’s history being revisioned to the recent happenings affecting each and every citizen.
